Cadillac has officially revealed that Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu will join its Formula 1 outfit as the team’s reserve driver ahead of its debut campaign in 2026. The announcement comes shortly after Zhou’s departure from his reserve role at Ferrari, where he spent the 2025 season supporting the Italian squad.
At 26, Zhou is an experienced F1 competitor, having taken part in 68 grands prix between 2022 and 2024 with Alfa Romeo and Sauber. During his time on the grid, he scored points on several occasions, including a finish inside the top ten at his debut in Bahrain.
Cadillac’s new team, backed by General Motors, will become the 11th competitor on the F1 grid and has already confirmed Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez as its race drivers for 2026. Alongside Zhou, American racer Colton Herta will serve as the team’s test driver while he competes in Formula 2.
In a statement, Zhou said he was thrilled to be part of Cadillac’s first Formula 1 project and sees it as an exciting challenge. He also noted his long-standing working relationship with team principal Graeme Lowdon and expressed confidence that his recent experience—both on track and in development roles—will be valuable to the team.
The move strengthens Cadillac’s technical lineup as it prepares for its first season on the world championship stage, combining seasoned race drivers with a reserve driver who has genuine F1 race history.
